The Jerwood Charitable Foundation is supporting Arvon in helping to spot the talent of the future. During 2009, nine writers who attended an Arvon course in 2008 have been mentored by leading writers on the Jerwood Mentoring Scheme.
The Jerwood mentoring scheme will be running once again in 2010. The three mentors for 2010 will be Bernardine Evaristo, Jo Shapcott and Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Applications for the 2010 mentoring scheme are now closed and the selected writers will be informed by the end of February.
The 2009 Mentoring Year
The 2009 Jerwood/Arvon year of mentoring began with a week-long Masterclass Residency at The Hurst in March.
Mentors joined their awarded mentees to lead a week of cross-disciplinary workshops, pragmatic individual tutorials and dynamic readings.
Poets Carole Bromley, Maitreyabandhu and Thomas Yates are being guided in their craft by award winning poet Mimi Khalvati.
Fiction writers Sue Wilsea, Joanna Quinn and Tom Raphael Eaves are enjoying the support of Booker Prize nominee Romesh Gunesekera.
Finally, playwrights Hannah Silva, Gemma Langford and Claudine Toutoungi are benefiting from the direction of successful playwright Colin Teevan.
