Happy Birthday to Arvon in 2008! It is 40 years since the first Arvon course took place in a remote farmhouse in Devon with the poet Ted Hughes as the first ever guest reader. This year we celebrate this anniversary by offering you even more chances to work with words and enjoy the freedom of your imagination. We are doing this in many ways.
Jerwood Mentoring
We are delighted that in 2008 the prestigious Jerwood Charitable Foundation has joined up with us to spot the talent of the future. Everyone who comes on an Arvon course in 2008, can ask to be chosen as one of the 12 writers who in 2009 will be mentored by a leading writer for a year. Find out more.
Arvon Support for Writers
This year, every person who comes on an Arvon course can submit a Creative Non Fiction proposal to Lord Byron's favourite publisher, John Murray and the first chapter of a novel to leading literary agency Capel & Land. When you book a course with us, you will get a unique booking number and be given details of how to submit your writing. No other writing course offers you this chance.
Grants
We have more grants this year than ever before to help those who can not afford to pay our fees for our residential courses. Our courses are already subsidised by the Arts Council and ourselves. However if you need help due to low income, apply whenyou book. Find out about our grants scheme.
Arvon Celebrates
Our four writing houses will have an open day in 2008, where new friends of Arvon as well as old can reunite and celebrate our 40th birthday in a day of writing, recitals and meetings. Watch out on our website for details of how to join in the celebrations.
