This course will focus on overall structure and theme, and will look in a more detailed way at improving style and pace through redrafting. It will also tackle the neglected area of dialogue. Brief samples of first drafts, and an outline of the story, would be welcome.

Adam Thorpe has published two volumes of short stories, Shifts and Is This The Way You Said? In 2008 he was short-listed for the BBC National Short Story Award. His novels include Ulverton and HODD.
Susannah Waters is a playwright, director, and novelist. Her first novel, Long Gone Anybody (Black Swan) was nominated for the Pendleton May first novel award, and her second novel, Cold Comfort, is published by Doubleday.
Michèle Roberts is the author of twelve novels, the most recent of which is Delusion. She’s been short-listed for the Booker Prize, and won the WH Smith Literary Award.
