Play it by Ear
This course will help students shun fear and let the text find its own life. We will encourage the instinctive, the element of surprise and listening to how the work sounds. By giving freedom to the first draft, we will enable students to identify and shape what is good and alive about their writing, and maintain it into the second draft.

Sujata Bhatt has published seven collections of poetry and received numerous awards. Her latest book, Pure Lizard, was short-listed for the Forward Poetry Prize and received the 2008 German Literature Prize, Das neue Buch.
Ross Raisin’s debut novel was God’s Own Country. In 2009 he won the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award. He has written short stories for Prospect and Esquire magazines.
Sadie Jones' first novel, The Outcast, was published in 2008. Her second, Small Wars, was published in 2009.
